AbstractLiteracy culture in villages still faces challenges in the form of limited
access to reading materials, low motivation to read among children, and a lack of sustainable programs. To address these issues, a Village Literacy Appreciation activity was carried out as a community-based empowerment effort. This activity was not merely ceremonial, but was designed to integrate reading, writing, art, and culture in order to create a multimodal literacy space tailored to the needs of children in the digital age. The methods used are participatory, collaborative, and contextual approaches. The results show that literacy is more effectively fostered through socio cultural approaches and the integration of fun activities such as storytelling competitions, creative writing, and art performances. Children are more motivated, while multi-stakeholder collaboration—involving village governments, schools, literacy communities, local writers, and sponsors— has proven to be the key to sustainability. The main challenge is program continuity, especially after the students' community service program ends. Conclusion The Village Literacy Appreciation program can be used as a best practice model for community-based literacy strengthening. This program is relevant, inclusive, and has the potential to be replicated to strengthen the village literacy ecosystem in a sustainable manner in Indonesia. |
